The number of challenges depends on the method and analyte. CMS requires 5 challenges for certain regulated analytes, identified in bold in the AAB-MLE Catalog Text Index.
What should I do if my proficiency testing kit specimens arrive warm or with a thawed ice pack?
Refrigerate specimens upon receipt. Samples are validated for stability during normal shipping without ice packs. If samples arrive within 2 days and are not visibly degraded, they are suitable for testing.
